Ehrlund Acoustic Pickup – EAP

Pure connection, natural sound

The EAP Pickup is not just a pickup—it’s a vibration microphone capable of capturing the hidden sonic world most transducers never reach.
With an extraordinary frequency response from 7 Hz to over 100 kHz, the EAP reveals detail far below and far above the limits of human hearing. Sub-sonic rumbles, microscopic textures, and explosive transients are all translated with stunning clarity.
Built to survive extreme environments, the EAP is fully waterproof and exceptionally durable. It has been frozen into deep lakes, drenched in water, and used to record massive impacts—producing raw, otherworldly sounds that feel almost unreal. It has even been used inside boiling pots of water, capturing the violent energy of sound at its source.
This unique capability has made the EAP a secret weapon across industries:
Film and video game sound design (used for tanks, explosions, gunfire, shattering glass—even in titles like Counter-Strike)
Studios capturing resonance from windows, walls, floors, and doors
Automotive and motorsport, including recordings on Formula 1 cars
Field recording, vehicles, machinery, and structural surfaces
Industrial applications, such as locating leaks in water or compressed air systems
Forestry, detecting insects hidden deep inside trees
And of course, the EAP shines on musical instruments:
double basses, cellos, violins, banjos, drums, grand pianos—and countless others—delivering a uniquely direct, physical, and organic sound.
Incredibly rugged. Sonically unmatched.
The EAP Pickup excels where conventional microphones and pickups fail—capturing complex vibrations with depth, realism, and character that must be heard to be believed.
Placing the pickup

The EAP is remarkably versatile and easy to use. It attaches to almost any reasonably flat surface using the supplied adhesive putty, opening the door to endless musical and creative possibilities. Instruments, objects, or even improvised percussion setups—all are fair game. Your imagination is the only limit.

Every instrument is unique, which is why placement matters. Finding the ideal position can take some time, especially the first time—but experience has shown us that it is always worth the effort. When properly placed, the result is a sound so natural it feels as if the instrument were completely unamplified.

The adhesive putty has been thoroughly tested over many years on a wide variety of instruments and does not leave marks on instrument surfaces. However, it may leave residue on textiles or very soft rubber or foam materials. It is essential that you only use the white putty supplied with the pickup. Other adhesives, often grey or green, may damage your instrument. The recommended and included putty is Faber-Castell TACK-IT White.

At Ehrlund, we value curiosity and creativity. Göran Ehrlund himself loves to experiment, and we hope you’ll feel that same spirit when exploring placement and new ways of using the EAP. If you discover a new position or an inventive application, we’d love to hear about it. Creativity has a way of spreading—and that’s something worth sharing.
